Gyro Burgers

Serve with baked sweet potato chips-

I love gyros so much that I suffer through most crowded fairs just so I can eat this classic Greek sandwich. Now I am not equipped at home to make the shaved lamb/beef mixture, but I wanted to make a version of it at home to satisfy my cravings. I knew I could make a burger version with pita bread instead of a bun. Craving satisfied!

Ttzatziki sauce, a Greek cucumber yogurt sauce, is traditionally served with the gyro, but I have made the sauce optional, substituting plain yogurt instead. If you have the time and/or inclination, I highly recommend you make the tzatziki; it’s so worth it! You’ll find the recipe below in “The Whole Meal Suggests” section. It will not be added to the shopping list, so you will need to add these ingredients manually to your weekly list.

Grilled Pork Kabobs with Spicy Peach BBQ Sauce

Served with grilled bok choy and steamed rice-

This is such a nice change from typical barbeque due to the Asian influence but no less delicious for your summertime eating. Take advantage of in-season juicy peaches and summer’s grilling to wow family and friends with this delicious, unique kabob meal.

Grilled Chimichurri Pork Chops

Serve with Cilantro Lime Rice

I usually serve chimichurri as a condiment but I saw pork chops marinated in this classic Argentinean condiment at the Fresh Market meat counter and thought what a great way to jazz up plain pork chops. This is an easy, flavorful warm weather meal when paired with a south-of-the-border side dish.

Hoisin Glazed Pork Tenderloin

Serve with fennel and red cabbage slaw, brown rice-

This really flavorful and moist grilled pork is one of my favorite summer grilling recipes, especially for an impromptu outdoor get together when you are sick of burgers, dogs and chicken. I have it paired with a fantastic fennel-red cabbage slaw, which came from my friend and The Whole Meal tester Leslee’s repertoire of easy and really fresh sides. Rice is an easy accompaniment, but potatoes salad or even grilled corn are just as delish.

Strawberry-Chia Seed Jam

I adapted my daughter’s blueberry-chia seed jam recipe for this spring fruit favorite with great success. With just a hint of sweetness via some honey, the burst of ripe strawberries really shines through. This is what you want to make with all those strawberries you picked fresh or scored at your local farmer’s market.

Grilled Honey Mustard Chicken, Arugula and Summer Veggie Rice Bowl

For a quick, keep-the-kitchen-cool meal that incorporates many of summer’s favorite garden vegetables look no further than this protein-rich rice bowl. Rice bowls are perfect one dish eating as you can easily mix and match your favorite proteins, vegetables and dressings depending on the season and what’s in the fridge.
